Ecc 1:12-14: I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens. What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind! I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Bald Cypress, a poem

Written in

by

Have you ever seen the skeleton of a giant draped in bark
that eclipses the sun and the moon

it fruits marbles
houses beaked umbrellas
and carries spherical orchids

its thousands of arms
play in the wind
and its millions of fingers
tap dance on the sky

something so big
its presence is forgotten

until its faint sap
eludes my breath
upon a breeze
with a long, SHHHHhhhhhhh...

it's going to be okay
says the giant
cloaked in wood
hidden in the air
